Insignia from Denmark and Greece to lie on altar at Prince Philip's funeral

Stephen Segrave, the Secretary of the relevant Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood, observed the chosen insignia would have "absolutely" supposed a great deal to Prince Philip.

"There can be nine cushions with insignia placed pre-placed around the altar," Mr Segrave noted. "They signify British and Commonwealth orders and decorations, and the remaining cushion with orders from Greece and Denmark, for obvious explanations.

"The Duke of Edinburgh had, I believe, 61 decorations and awards from 53 diverse different international locations, and there comfortably simply wasn't the area to have them all on reveal at the funeral."
